On a private basis we also offer internships to people interested in becoming an Assistance Dog trainer. These internships are typically full-time for 6 weeks and include selection/evaluation process of potential Assistance Dogs, assignment of a string of dogs to work with, learning how to handle and socialize an Assistance Dog in public, teach basic manners through advanced tasks, how to interview clients and match dog/client together, and how to teach a client to work with their new Assistance Dog.
For people seeking an even more detailed internship, it can be extended to incorporate how to manage a breeding program, early raising/training of puppies, working with Puppy Parents (foster homes), etc.
Internships typically cost $2,500 for the 6 week course, and when possible on-site housing is provided. When a job opening is available, applying interns receive high priority.
