This past Summer we began an intensive campaign to bring in enough money for an amazing property we had found (see details in the related post), but well before we reached our goal another buyer found the property and loved it just as much as we did.
We changed tactics, and began instead looking for a home for our Founder and Executive Director, Jillian Gartner (who had been bouncing between nights at the kennel and commuting an hour each way), and her fiance, Tim. If they could find a home with suitable zoning, a kennel building and yard space, APAW could rent from them at a lower rate, and have full ability to modify the building for APAW’s specific needs.
A great home has been found in Westminster, MA, with 1.4 acres of lawn, a small house (with a quiet office space apart from the kennel – yay!), and a 1,000 sqft 3-car garage. We are converting one bay into our kennel area, and the other two bays form a large and separate training room.
Ultimately APAW will likely outgrow this space, but it is a huge improvement for the current needs of the program. Perhaps this property will eventually become the location for our breeding program while we find a much larger commercial space to become the main kennel and training campus. Only time will tell!
